Erie Canal, 6 a.m.On Friday I had taken delivery of a new Sigma EX 300mm f/2.8 APO, a very large, fast and expensive lens. So naturally I was just dying to try it out. I didn't have a chance on Friday evening so I took it with me when I went to meet my Saturday morning running group. We always began our runs at 6:30 so I had to arrive early in order to get a few shots in. Thus it was that I arrived at Bushnell's Basin, NY on the Erie Canal near Rochester at six o'clock on a June morning and get this shot as the first rays of the rising sun began burning off the fog. After getting set up I only had time to get 5 shots before my friends arrived to begin the run, and what you see here is the 5th one. I'd call it a successful trial run as this photo won first place in the Sigma "Summer Dreams" photo contest. Photo Copyright © Mark Roberts All rights reserved. |
