Most of my students and illustrator/designer friends won’t have seen this because they aren’t motorcycle racing fans, so I’ll point it out for their benefit. It’s a very illuminating article on the MotoMatters web site, showing from start to finish how an artist created one of his works.
Rich Lee starts with a photograph (by motorsports photographer Scott Jones) and transforms it into hand-drawn sketches and then digital vector-graphic art. We get to see each step in the process and watch as the design changes, gets refined and finally polished and detailed. The artist, Rich Lee, has a web site at www.richleedraws.com and a Facebook page that’s well worth a look, too.
