PART II: Image Acquisition

Options for getting your digital image

Now that we've gone through the ways in which your computer handles digital images, it's time to acquire some to play with. For this, we have basically three options:

Pentax PZ-1p, Sigma 300mm f2.8 w Pentax F1.7x teleconverter

• A scanner

Flatbed Scanner - To scan prints*.

Film Scanner - For slides or negatives.

• A digital camera

    To create digital files directly.

* Note that some flatbed scanners come with attachments for scanning slides and negatives. Although these are good enoug for many applications, the quality of the scans is generally much lower than that of a dedicated film scanner.
